Film #30/366
3 / 5 Stars
Very slow and minimalistic interpretation of the Emily Bronte novel. With the exception of the shaky cam stuff, the film looks beautiful. What really worked here was the grim and harsh reality that the characters face, both in day-to-day life and in love. I also kind of liked the lack of music throughout, it made the story feel more real. Could have done without the Mumford and Sons bullshit over the credits though.
Although I was excited to see Kaya Scodelario in this kind of role, her acting was the weakest in Wuthering Heights, closely followed by James Howson. The young versions of their characters in the first half were quite good though, so the second half by contrast was disappointing.
